The most important world trophy in tourism, the "Golden Apple" was presented on Tuesday, 14th of October 2014, in Targu-Jiu - to the Gorj County authorities - by the President of the International Federation of Journalists activating in the written Tourism Press (FIJET), Tijani Haddad.
The event took place at the Table of Silence in the Central Park of the city, this international recognition conferring to the Targu-Jiu Municipality, the title of "One of a Kind Cultural and Touristical Destination."
The "Golden Apple" Award, a unique and unrepeatable prize for Gorj County, is one of those historical moments that make us look at this land with pride, as it enters this way in the elite of the world tourism. An entiore team has worked for this project that was coordinated by the specialized body through which the journalists from our country and those from abroad, had the most difficult task, as the selection was not an easy one, "said Ion Călinoiu, the Gorj County Council’s President.
In the context, the minister Florin Jianu declared that this was a historic moment, the award of this prize, meaning an international recognition of the touristic potential in our country.
"This is a historic moment, receiving the 'Golden Apple' Award - which is the Oscar of international Tourism – for Gorj County and Targu Jiu City. Thus, basically, Romania continues the series of events that it has had with the European Tourism Commission, with the World Tourism Organization, here, today, with the awarding of this prize that means the international recognition of the touristic potential in our country. Statistics show a 12% increase in the number of foreign tourists, a two-fold increase compared with last year. We are on a positive, very good trend", emphasized Florin Jianu.
The "Golden Apple" Trophy confirms the opportunity for developing the Targu-Jiu City and Gorj County, in the future, as cultural-touristic destinations for the Travel industry in Romania, in Europe and worldwide.
