Bucharest was the first city in the world illuminated with kerosene in 1857.
The idea belonged to the pharmacist Adolf Steege, and the concession was attributed to Theodore M. Mehedinteanu.
Also in 1857, in Rafov, near Ploiesti, it was opened the first industrial refinery and Romanian oil became the first combustible entered in commercial circuite.
In 1871, Bucharest had street lighting on air gas before Berlin or Paris.
