Unique in Romania: Iacobdeal Lake, from Tulcea County, Macin Mountains

27 Mar 2016

Located near Turcoaia locality, in Tulcea county, Iacobdeal Lake, a man-made lake, has formed in an old granite quarry exploited decades ago. Dynamiting one of the galleries, made the ground water to flood the place and thus, the lake was created.

The emerald color of the lake and the water’s clarity, the ‘bucket’ shape, create a unique image, resembling a glacial lake, which makes this place unique. It is surrounded by granite glazed walls, it has steep banks and it is said that in its depths would live large fishes.

The Lake "has no connection with any other aquatic unit. No running water flows in it, and it has no draining channel to the Danube." (ecomuntiimacinului.wordpress.com). The water supply for the lake is just from groundwater and precipitations.

The access to the lake is made through a cave, giving the place a touch of adventure, a glimpse of nature’s magic.
